🐾 Road Trip with a Dog in Norway, Day 5: Tired and Checking into an Apartment

⛽ Rest Stop at the Gas Station
We drove down from the mountains and stopped at a gas station for a longer break and lunch. There were options to go for a walk, sit on outdoor benches, and even swim if you wanted to.
We started with a longer walk to stretch our legs. There was a small pond nearby, and since it was very hot, Gizmo went for a swim. Afterwards, we sat in the car with the windows and doors open to relax. I placed Gizmo's harness on top of the car so it could dry before we continued.
💡 Tips & Tricks:
-
Use gas stations with green areas or trails as perfect pit stops for your dog, they're great for exercise and bathroom breaks.
-
Always pack a towel for your dog, spontaneous swims happen, and wet gear can start to smell or grow mold.
-
Keep the car well-ventilated during breaks, but always keep your dog on a leash or supervised when doors are open.
🏡 Checking into an Apartment in Sjåk
Our next destination was Sjåk, where we had rented an apartment for a few days. To check in, I messaged the host, who sent me a code for the key box and a photo of the apartment so I'd know exactly where to go. When it was time to check out, I simply returned the key to the box and tidied up after Gizmo and myself.
The apartment was called Signegarden, In the Middle of the Mountains, Close to Fjord Norway. The surrounding landscape was stunning, with incredible hiking opportunities, perfect for unwinding after lots of driving.
💡 Tips & Tricks:
-
When booking through Airbnb or similar platforms, ask for check-in details in advance. Take screenshots or save the information in case you lose internet connection.
-
Always clean up after your dog, vacuum if necessary and wipe away any mess. Leaving a good impression can prevent extra fees.
-
Choose accommodations with easy access to nature and hiking trails when traveling with a dog, it makes walks and relaxation much easier.
