A Day Trip to Dinant and Luxembourg, Two Countries in One Day!

Hi everyone!
During our trip to Belgium, we decided to join a guided day tour to Dinant and Luxembourg, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our vacation!
We took the train to Brussels, and after a short walk through the city, we found the coach that would take us on a 12-hour adventure. The tour cost 1,532 NOK for two adults, and in our opinion, it was worth every penny.
First Stop: Dinant
Our first destination was the beautiful town of Dinant, located along the banks of the River Meuse. The town is famous for its colorful buildings, dramatic cliffs, and the impressive citadel overlooking the city.
We began with a guided walking tour before visiting the spectacular Citadel of Dinant, where we enjoyed amazing panoramic views over the town and the river.
We also stopped at La Maison de Monsieur Sax, the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. Throughout the town, you'll even find colorful saxophone sculptures celebrating his legacy.
Free Time to Explore
After the guided tour, we had some free time to explore on our own.
We enjoyed lunch, wandered through the charming streets, and visited a few local shops. Dinant has a peaceful atmosphere and plenty of beautiful places to photograph.
📸 Tip: Bring your camera, the views of the river and the citadel are stunning.
Continuing to Luxembourg
After our visit to Dinant, we boarded the coach again and continued to Luxembourg City, the capital of Luxembourg.
Our guide spoke English, and everyone received a small audio receiver with earphones so we could clearly hear the explanations while walking around the city. It worked really well, especially with such a large group.
During the tour we visited:
- Grand Ducal Palace
- Place d'Armes
- Kirchberg
- Notre Dame Cathedral
The beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral was especially memorable, with its impressive Gothic architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
Christmas Market and Free Time
After the guided tour, we had some time to explore Luxembourg City on our own.
We visited the charming Christmas market, browsed local shops and market stalls, and finished the evening with a delicious dinner before returning to Brussels.
One of the nicest parts of the day was traveling with people from many different countries. Along the journey we shared stories, laughter, and travel experiences together.
Practical Tips
💤 Get a good night's sleep before the tour, it will be a long but exciting day.
👟 Wear comfortable walking shoes.
🧥 Bring a jacket, especially during autumn and winter.
📷 Make sure your phone or camera is fully charged.
💧 Bring water and a few snacks for the coach journey.
💶 Carry a little cash, although most places accept cards.
Final Thoughts
This guided tour allowed us to experience two wonderful destinations in just one day.
Dinant impressed us with its beautiful scenery, fascinating history, and iconic citadel, while Luxembourg offered stunning architecture, charming streets, and a wonderful blend of history and modern life.
If you're staying in Brussels or anywhere in Belgium, I can definitely recommend this day trip. It's well organized, educational, and perfect if you want to see a lot in a single day.
