Travel as Medicine for the Soul

Mental health isn't just about treatment and therapy, it's also about everyday joy, community, and fresh inspiration. Travel can offer all of this, and more.
With my background in healthcare and education in mental health work, I know that even small experiences can make a huge difference in the lives of people who are struggling. A trip to a new place can bring hope, a sense of mastery, and the feeling of being part of something bigger.
Research shows that social contact and meaningful activities can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety (NCBI). When we travel, our brains are exposed to new stimuli, which boosts energy, creativity, and happiness.
Tips and tricks for using travel as nourishment:
🌍 Choose destinations that give you peace or inspiration, nature, culture, or the sea.
👥 Travel with trusted people, it provides support and security.
✍️ Keep a travel journal, reflecting on your experiences strengthens your memories.
🕐 Set realistic goals—you don't have to join every activity; choose what suits you.
💬 Talk about your experience, sharing your journey with others builds community.
I'm not saying that travel alone can solve mental health challenges. But I truly believe it can be an important part of everyday coping and joy. Travel can give you a break from worries, a community to lean on, and memories that last long after the suitcase is unpacked.
At Inclusive Travel, our goal is to make these kinds of experiences accessible to everyone, no matter their starting point.
