Sunshine and Relaxation in Gran Canaria: My First Trip to Spain

My very first trip to Spain, more specifically Gran Canaria, was in 2017 together with a friend and her family. It was such a cozy experience, and also one of the first times I had ever been on a plane. I remember forgetting to place my bag under the seat in front of me, so the red light came on above us. That's how I learned that rule 😅 We were also served food on the flight, another first for me. The meal was okay, but the dessert was delicious.
Hotel Experience
We stayed at a large hotel, and my friend and I had our own room. It was spacious with a small living area, plus a balcony facing the pool. The room also had a fridge and a TV, it felt like pure luxury!
Tips:
-
Many hotels on Gran Canaria include a fridge in the room, super handy if you want to buy some food or drinks instead of eating out all the time.
-
A balcony with a pool view is nice, but it can also be a bit noisy, request a room that suits your preference.
Activities and Experiences
For me, Gran Canaria is the kind of destination where you can just relax, visit markets, and enjoy great food. We spent our time swimming and sunbathing both at the hotel pool and the beach. We also went shopping and visited a local market.
Tips:
-
Visit local markets, like the ones in Maspalomas or Puerto de Mogán, you'll find everything from fruit and vegetables to handmade souvenirs.
-
Combine beach days with small excursions to see more of the island.
-
Don't forget sunscreen, the sun here is much stronger than you think, even when it's cloudy.
Weather and Atmosphere
We had beautiful weather the entire week. With the hotel, pool, and beach all nearby, it was the perfect mix of relaxation and fun.
Overall, this trip was a lovely and cozy experience, both because of the family I traveled with and the area itself. Gran Canaria is truly a great destination if you want a mix of sunshine, markets, shopping, and calm days by the sea. 🌞
