Hikes, Training, and Relaxation in Skjåk

😴 Exhausted After Long Days

After a quick potty walk with Gizmo, I brought all our things into the apartment. We lay straight down on the bed and slept for a couple of hours, we were completely exhausted. After long days of driving, nights on the mountain with constantly changing temperatures, cold, warm, then cold again, and a bit of a cold on top of that, we really needed rest.

Gizmo barked a little when people walked past the windows, but not as much as he did in the hotel room. It was calmer and more private here, which helped a lot.

🏔 Beautiful Nature and Great Hiking Opportunities

Skjåk is surrounded by stunning nature: mountains, water, and fresh air. We took many walks in the area, some short, some longer. There were horses and other animals nearby, so if you have allergies, you might feel a bit stuffy, but otherwise, it was fantastic. Gizmo loved exploring, and we took our time to enjoy the surroundings.

💡 Tips & Tricks for Hiking and Relaxing with a Dog:

  • Plan rest days: After several active travel days, give both yourself and your dog time to recharge.

  • Check local hiking options: Skjåk offers beautiful trails, download offline maps in case of poor reception.

  • Prepare for allergies: If you or your dog have allergies, bring nasal spray, antihistamines, and any necessary pet meds.

  • Bring something familiar: A favorite blanket or toy can help your dog feel secure in new places.

  • Do short training sessions: Use quiet days to practice tricks or obedience, it keeps your dog mentally active without too much physical strain.

🌟 Summary

These days in Skjåk were all about relaxing, hiking, doing some light training with Gizmo, and enjoying the beauty around us. After everything we had done and seen over the past days, this was exactly what we needed, peace, fresh mountain air, and time to recharge. Gizmo was a little champ and adapted so well, and it felt amazing just to breathe and be present in the moment.
